ORAL SKILLS is an academic listening and speaking course for first year level designed for English language learners to enable them to further develop their communication skills. It consists of three weekly hours of tuition and is delivered over two semesters. This course is designed to introduce students to academic listening and speaking activities. Students will continue to develop pronunciation skills and complex communication strategies. The learners will expand their abilities to communicate in both formal and informal situations as they continue to refine their pronunciation skills. This course is based on listening to lectures and/ or watching videos as part of the listening sequence, which is designed to improve English language learners’ listening comprehension abilities.  Instruction focuses on academic listening and speaking strategies for a variety of classroom situations, including note-taking and utilizing a range of learned phrases for effective class discussion and presentations.

Through a Pedagogical Approach to Translation, this course seeks to enhance students’ command of the language transfer from Source language (Arabic) to Target language (English).

While the Translation class focuses primarily on Practice and Drills, it also aims to familiarize students with key terms and concepts of Translation.
